The World Tourism Forum Lucerne (WTFL) is an independent platform for opinion leaders in the international travel, tourism and hospitality industries. Its main event is held every two years in the Swiss city of Lucerne; the next edition will be staged on April 23-24, 2015. In cooperation with 13 international Partner Universities, the Lucerne-Forum focuses on strategic issues, based particularly on intensive discussions with the Next Generation in our industries. A new partnership between the WTFL and the Shanghai-based East China Normal University now aims at creating awareness about the importance of identifying and promoting young talents in the tourism sector.

Martin Barth, Founder and President of the World Tourism Forum Lucerne will be hosting the Media Conference in Shanghai. Ahead of this event, he explains “We are delighted to announce our partnership with ECNU, as this allows us to enter one of the most vibrant tourism markets in the world”. Mr Barth will be joined by Mr Wang Zhan, President of Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences and Executive Vice Chairman of Yangtze Development Council, Mr Yang Jingsong, Director General of the Shanghai Municipal Tourism and Mr Heinrich Schellenberg, General Consul of Swiss General Consulate in Shanghai.

The Shanghai launch-event represents the beginning of a close and long-term cooperation between Lucerne and China. Within this work, Mr Barth will be assisted by Jianguo Xu, the newly assigned China Representative of the World Tourism Forum Lucerne. One of the other objectives of the cooperation is to generate a large Chinese delegation to the 2015-Forum in Switzerland; consisting of both delegates and keynote speakers. Furthermore, as of 2016, a separate China-Forum shall be organised in Shanghai and held thereafter every two years. Major and prestigious players of the Chinese tourism industry will be assisting the cooperation; including the Shanghai Shendi Group, Shanghai Government, Jinjiang International and Lvmama.com.
