Prof. Martin Barth, lawyer, General Manager World Tourism Forum Lucerne

Martin Barth graduated at St. Gall University in 1990 with a licentiate in jurisprudence (lic. iur. HSG). After gaining experience in court and with a St. Gall law firm, he was admitted to the bar in canton St. Gall in 1993.

He started his career at the beginning of 1994 with Mövenpick, first as assistant to the General Manager Consumer Goods, then as deputy secretary general. As of 1997 he was appointed Secretary General with responsibility for the general secretariat, the law department, coordination of the real estate division and Group-wide human resources services, and legal support in connection with trademark rights and acquisitions. Martin Barth was furthermore a board member of various Mövenpick Group companies.
In 2001, Martin Barth took up a new challenge as tourism director. 

In spring 2003 Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts offered him the “Tourism and Mobility” chair, a completely new diploma course in Switzerland. Today Martin Barth heads up the entire faculty of tourism as professor at the Institute of Tourism, where he teaches in strategic management, service marketing and hotel management. Since 2008 he is General Manager of the World Tourism Forum Lucerne.

Martin Barth rounds off his activities with various consulting mandates, above all in the tourism related sectors of destination promotion and hotel management.
