Highlights of the World Tourism Forum Lucerne 2009

The 1st World Tourism Forum Lucerne attracted more than 130 decision-makers of the global tourism industry. In plenary sessions, workshops, panel discussions, a world café and many networking breaks, the participants discussed future challenges and strategies for their industry. Instead of analysing the reasons of the current crisis, the focus of the forum lay on new ideas and solutions in the long term. According to the results of the presentations and the discussions, the tourism industry must become more sustainable in the future. Also, the whole industry will be influenced more strongly by the mobility in the future.

We are glad to offer some content of the forum below. Read the speeches of the opening session, have a look at the presentations of the forum, download a free copy of the study summary or browse through the picture galleries.

Young Talent Award

Young talents in the tourism industry had the opportunity to win a participation at the WTFL by handing in a paper on a topic in tourism and mobility. Among all texts handed in, Henry Tuen from Hong Kong was ranked first. In his paper on the market entry of low cost carriers to Macau, he made an important empirical contribution to this field of research. Henry participated in the forum together with four other students from Hong Kong and one from Switzerland. Click here to read his paper and here to read the summary of the text.
